Naples Classical Academy is a growing public charter school that opened in the fall of 2021 and now serves scholars grades K - 12. Our school follows a classical curriculum that includes a variety of important subjects including history, Philosophy, Language Arts, Mathematics, visual arts, science, music, physical education, and others. The essence of virtue, Western philosophy, and moral character permeates our curriculum as we seek to instill a love for knowledge and learning in our scholars.

English Language Arts at a Classical Academy

The objectives of English Language Arts at a classical academy are to equip students for intellectual and moral excellence while cultivating proficiency in English Language Arts, specifically focusing on reading, composition, and conversation. Reading instruction aims to engage scholars with challenging and content-rich texts. Writing is approached by initiating clear ideas and concluding with persuasive communication. Conversation involves reading aloud grade-level texts, structured class discussions modeling essential questioning and answering skills, and the memorization and recitation of significant works of poetry and famous speeches.

Position Overview

We seek a qualified, full-time ELA teacher who possess strong classroom management skills, and a dedication to the art of teaching with an emphasis on Reading and Writing. Teachers are expected to demonstrate high moral character and have a mastery of the subjects they teach. They will work collaboratively to create working and learning environments for all students that fosters foundational habits that promote virtue. This position reports directly to the head of school.

Responsibilities

  • Developing schedules, lesson plans, and teaching methods that will help students cover the required content and follow the curriculum with skill and fidelity.
  • Managing a classroom in such a way as to create an atmosphere characterized by respect.
  • Aiding scholars in building foundational habits that cultivate the virtues of courage, honesty and perseverance.
  • Contributing to the life of the school through participation in school events, clubs, and the like.
  • Assisting with teacher duties outside the classroom.
  • Communicating with parents, regularly and professionally, about student conduct and progress.
  • Preparing and delivering lessons that are stimulating and clear.
  • Comply with all relevant school policies and state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Setting up tests, assignments, and grading students fairly.
  • Attending staff and parent meetings, conferences, workshops, and other professional development.
  • Ensuring a safe, healthy classroom environment where learning can take place.
  • Preparing lesson plans for substitute teachers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Experience in a classical environment preferred.
  • Valid teaching license or certificate, or willingness to begin pursuing one of the various pathways to certification offered by the state. (Naples Classical is happy to help candidates identify a pathway to licensure or certification, to be obtained within the first two years of teaching).
