Job Description:

A Pool Teacher/permanent substitute teacher is a full-time, salaried educator for the duration of a school year.  The pool teacher provides face-to-face instruction with scholars and ensures continuity of appropriate learning during the absence of the lead teacher. Pool teachers perform related duties in lieu of the absent educator. They must adapt to changing school operational needs and be able to create and maintain a climate that promotes the mission and vision of Naples Classical Academy. 

Major Function:

This is a classroom leadership position responsible for guided instruction and learning while following written plans for the day’s program of study. The Pool teacher ensures that the classroom and learning environment is welcoming, safe, and respectful. S/he collaborates with other teachers and administrators and communicates with parents and guardians when necessary. S/he assesses scholar learning and provides feedback to the regular classroom teacher.

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing the classroom well by keeping scholars engaged and on task, maintaining a positive learning environment, and supervising scholars at all times

  • Covering daily or long-term classroom assignments, following through with scheduled assignments, and creating reports for the absent teacher

  • Creating a classroom environment that is safe, orderly, conducive to learning, and consistent with the mission and vision of the school

  • Assisting with non-classroom duties, such as lunch duty or playground monitor, carline, and teacher preparation periods

  • Maintaining established procedures of the school and classroom

  • Collaborating with co-workers & being a team player

  • Managing scholar misconduct promptly and resolving conflict and crises effectively.

  • Performing other related duties as required and assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required 

  • Required: College degree (2 year degree), Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Experience working with children or in a school setting required

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience with and conviction for the values and tenets of a liberal arts education

  • Community and partnership in the common pursuit of forming intelligent, virtuous citizens
